Frequently Asked Questions

How do I make a booking?

To make a booking with Kent Horsebox Hire and Transport, call Claire on 07975 997098 or send us a message using the form on the Contact Us page to check availability for the dates you wish to book. For horse transport be sure to include the post code of pick up and delivery locations in your message for an accurate quote.

If the horsebox is available on the dates you require, you will be able to confirm your booking over the phone by paying the booking deposit of £50 by card. If you would prefer to pay this deposit in cash, please pay us a visit at our address and ask to speak with Claire or Steve. The address is:

Eastfield Stables, Heron Hill Lane, Meopham, Gravesend, DA13 0DU (If you are using a sat nav, use the postcode DA13 0BT)

Full payment will have to be taken by card one week before collection of the Horsebox. The £500 damage deposit may be paid in cash or by card at the time of collection.

What documents do I need to bring with me?
  • In order to hire the horsebox for self-drive, we will need to see the photo card of the driver’s full UK driving licence. If you do not have a driving license with a photo you will need to bring another form of photo ID such as a passport.
  • Create a licence ‘check code’ to share your driving record https://www.gov.uk/view-driving-licence
  • We will also need to see either originals or copies of two utility bills from within the last 3 months as proof of address.

Read information on hiring a vehicle on the DVLA Website.

Prior to hiring the horsebox, we advise you to read through, print off and bring with you a copy of the terms and conditions.

Do I have to pay a deposit?
There is a booking deposit of £50 per day of hire, this is taken at the time of booking to confirm the dates you wish to hire the horsebox.

There is also a £500 damage deposit to cover damage to the horsebox in the case of an accident. This can be paid by card or in cash at the time of hire and will be refunded if the horsebox is returned in an undamaged condition.

Do I need to put fuel in the Horsebox?
We will provide a full tank of diesel with the horsebox when you hire it, and we ask that you return the horsebox with a full tank of fuel. Failing to do so will incur a refuelling charge.
How big a horse can it carry?
The horsebox is designed to carry the largest of horses.

Here are the dimensions of the horse area:

Horse area length 8’4”

Width per stall 3’4”

Height internal 8’0”

Can I collect the night before/bring back the morning after?
This can sometimes be arranged, as long as this doesn’t clash with the box being returned or collected by other customers.
Do I need to insure myself and my horse?
We have taken out fully comprehensive insurance for anyone between the ages  23 and 75 to drive the horsebox, this is included in the price.

You will need to insure your horse for travel as this will not be covered. You must also always carry your horse’s passport when travelling.

Is there a mileage limit?

Yes, we have a 200 mile limit. Once you go over the limit there will be a 35p per mile charge.

Do I need a special license to drive it?
No, as long as you are between the ages of 23 and 75 for insurance purposes anyone can drive the horsebox on a normal driving license.
Can I have more than one driver?
Yes, of course you can. We will need to see all of the above documents for each driver so they are covered by the insurance.
Do I need to clean the horsebox before returning it?
Unlike most horsebox hire companies, we clean the horsebox at no extra charge.

All we ask is that you please ensure there are no droppings left in the horsebox and sweep out any hay so we can thoroughly clean and disinfect ready for the next customer.

Can I drive in the low emissions zone?
Yes, our Alexanders Royal Ascot and GEM Professional Transporter are both fully LEZ compliant.
